Verified Purchase. This writing is such an entertaining journal of Hawthorne's tour of Italy and France. I lived in Italy for eight years and only wish I could experience his trip first-hand. However, these notebooks are the next best way to re-live his trip and I recommend either the online or hard copy if you are interested in historical travel journals OR just in learning about earlier travelers in either of these countries.
